Poly Tutor

Do what you love — in Chinese

Read stories, chat about your day, watch videos, and keep a journal — with just enough help to understand everything, and less help every week as Tutor learns what you know.

Read

Books you actually want to read, at your level

Tutor curates graded readers at many levels, from first sentences up to full stories. Help appears over the words you don't know yet — everything else is just reading.

  • Graded readers curated at every level
  • Tap any word for pronunciation and meaning
  • Line translations there when you want them, hidden when you don't

Chat

A tutor who talks with you, at your speed

Speak or type in whichever language comes naturally — your tutor always answers in Chinese you can understand, with your language right below. No racing, no pressure: the conversation moves at your pace, at your level, about your life.

  • Talk by voice or text, in either language
  • Replay any sentence as many times as you need
  • It remembers what you talked about last time

Watch

Watch what you already watch

Pick any show or playlist on YouTube. Tutor lines up the transcript with help on the hard words, so you can follow real speech about the things you already care about.

Your words

Tutor remembers every word you know

Every word you meet is tracked — the ones you've mastered, the ones you're still meeting, the ones you've never seen. That's why the help thins out on its own: as words become yours, their training wheels come off everywhere in the app.

Why this works

Understandable input, about things that matter to you

Linguist Stephen Krashen showed that we acquire languages through comprehensible input — content just slightly above your level, that you can still understand. Educators call it “i+1”. Because Tutor remembers exactly which words you know, it can keep everything you read and hear in that zone.

Krashen also found that you acquire fastest when the content is meaningful to you and you're relaxed. So instead of drills, points, and streaks, Tutor simplifies the language — never the substance — of the things you already enjoy.

Notes

Keep your notes and journal, bilingually

Write about your day in either language. Tutor helps you say it in Chinese — and what you write becomes part of what it knows about you.

Day videos

Turn your day into a story video

Chat about your day and add a few photos — Tutor turns them into a short narrated video in Chinese, about your own life. Nothing is more comprehensible than your own story.

Clipboard

Paste anything, read everything

Copy any text — a message, an article, a menu — and the clipboard reader gives it the same word-by-word help.
